Just down the road from my house, in the front of a neighbor's yard, lies a huge ship's anchor complete with chain links attached, nestled in a group of large rocks. The rocks are about four feet in height and may weigh as much as five hundred to six hundred pounds each. The anchor is approximately seven feet high with a span of about six feet. The links in the anchor alone must weigh thirty five to forty pounds a piece. You are not going to move or re-arrange this without some heavy equipment or a fierce tornado. Because it has been undisturbed for quite some time now, the job of moving it becomes all the more difficult. It goes unnoticed most of the time by passers by but speaks volumes to those who will pay attention. To some, it is simply unique yard décor and a great conversation piece. To others, it conveys the message that the owner was in the shipping industry and is proud of the legacy he left but to those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ, it is a reminder that we have an anchor that is steadfast no matter the size of the storm.
In the book of Hebrews, chapter 6 and starting at verse 13 we read: “For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;....” (KJV)
You can take comfort in knowing that no matter what storm may come into your life, if you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ, it will not overtake you.
